AgderLAN, held from February 20th to 24th, presented a monumental undertaking for our team at UiA/GAME, with myself as the project manager. Tasked with orchestrating the gaming and tournaments for this large LAN event hosting around 300 attendees, meticulous planning and coordination were paramount.
In my role, I spearheaded the planning process, covering everything from game selection and tournament formats to logistics, equipment transport, volunteer management, and venue layout. This event marked a significant milestone, representing the largest and most complex project I had undertaken to date.
The tournament lineup featured flagship competitions such as Fortnite and CS2, alongside other popular titles like Fifa, Super Smash Bros, and Minecraft. Additionally, we introduced innovative elements such as a creative build competition in Minecraft and interactive challenges like StepManiaX and fall guys. Ensuring a balanced and enjoyable experience for participants, I strategically assigned team members based on their expertise and allocated resources accordingly.
Collaborating closely with partners such as Gard Insurance and the AgderLAN crew, as well as engaging with companies like Power, added depth and significance to our efforts. This event not only showcased our collective abilities but also strengthened partnerships and fostered camaraderie within the esports community.
Managing the logistical intricacies of the event, including the transportation of arcade machines and computer setups totaling approximately 750,000kr in value, was both challenging and rewarding. Creating schedules to optimize team efficiency while allowing for downtime ensured a well-balanced workload and a positive experience for all involved.
Through this experience, I honed my skills in event and project management on a grand scale, navigating complex communication channels and multi-departmental coordination with ease. The seamless execution of AgderLAN underscored my passion for event management and affirmed our team’s capability to deliver exceptional results. Despite the demanding nature of the week-long event, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from stakeholders and the absence of major issues reaffirmed the success of our efforts and our readiness for future collaborations.
